What a year The Dusty 45s had! 2011 was huge! They went on tour with the legendary Wanda Jackson, and super star Adele, hitting (sold out!) shows in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles, to name a few. Then, they rocked the Northwest all summer long, playing festivals and outdoor events, before taking off to the East Coast for their yearly jaunt to Nantucket. Ending the year in style, the band played with Wanda Jackson again on New Year’s Eve in Los Angeles.

Starting 2012 off right, once again, the band is partnering with DESC for the fourth year in a row for the annual Gimme Shelter Benefit concert at The Showbox at the Market on Friday, February 3^rd. This year’s Gimme Shelter will feature performances by The Maldives, Lazy Susan, The Young Evils, Betsy Olson, Davidson Hart Kingsbery, The Purrs, and, of course, The Dusty 45s. The D45s’ own Billy Joe Huels will serve as the event emcee, once again. Quite a line-up, right?!

DESC’s mission is to shelter and house Seattle’s most vulnerable homeless adults, particularly those with serious mental and addictive illnesses. Through partnerships and an integrated array of comprehensive services, treatment, and housing, DESC serves over 7,000 people annually. DESC is vital organization in the Seattle community. The Huels family and The Dusty 45s are proud to be associated with their valuable work.

What a year we’ve had! After the release of Fortunate Man in the spring, we spent a lot of time on the road. Our “Back to Your Roots” tour started off a little rocky when our tour van broke down in Montana! But it didn’t slow us down for long, and we were back on the Dusty trail, heading to the Mid-South, for stops in Jonesboro, Louisville, Knoxville, three shows in Nashville, and playing in Billy Joe’s hometown for his dad’s 80^th birthday!

We returned to Washington and kept busy, playing all over the state at various festivals and events in July and August. From Everett to Yakima to Electric City, we were there! As summer came to a close, we hit the road again, this time heading to the East Coast for shows in Boston and Nantucket. You may have seen the video we posted on Facebook, showing our glamorous accommodations! All jokes aside, we had a blast!!!

From the East Coast to the West Coast! We hopped in the van for three shows in Arizona, followed by six shows in California. With Seattle luck on our side, we ran into some rain on what was supposed to be our sunny L.A. road trip!

We had a great time playing all over the country, and meeting so many new fans!
We hope to make it back to play for you again soon!

The Dusty 45s are proud to partner with DESC (formerly Downtown Emergency Service Center) once again this year for the 2nd annual Gimme Shelter benefit concert on Friday, January 29, 2010, at The Triple Door, playing at 7 pm and 10 pm. Chuckanut Drive will open both shows.

The Gimme Shelter event comes shortly before the release of The Dusty 45s’ highly anticipated new studio album, Fortunate Man. The album contains a collection of original Dusty 45s material, including Walking in the Rain, Peace of Mind, and the title track, all of which have been enthusiastically received at recent live shows and will be performed at the benefit.

The 2008 Summer Concerts. We had the largest turnout ever at University Village and played our first Seafair Festival. We shared the stage with The English Beat and The Knack at the Festival of the River, and returned to the Harbor Steps/out to lunch concert for the 9th time!

Boston and Nantucket! The band traveled to the east coast in October for a string of shows. We performed at Boston’s Historic Wilbur Theatre with Pearl Jam’s, Stone Gossard, and Seattle’s Johnny Cash sensation Vince Mira. The band was grateful to have long time friend and talented upright bassist Corey Kaiser join us for the tour.

‘Gimme Shelter’ concert at the Triple Door Theatre. The Dusty 45s and friends raised $56,000 for the Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC). The DESC supports Seattle’s most vulnerable mentally ill and homeless men and women.

Most notably, we were honored to meet and play a fundraiser for Barack Obama!

In 2009 we plan to continue our quest to rock you, not only in Washington State, but across the country! Thanks to all of your for inspiring us to create new music and explore the limits of what it means to be The Dusty 45s!

DESC is Seattle’s largest homeless service provider, and focuses on the needs of vulnerable men and women living with persistent and severe mental illness. DESC’s integrated program of shelter, mental health care, addiction treatment and employment services effectively connects people to appropriate affordable housing and services. For almost 30 years, DESC has operated the largest emergency shelter in Seattle and today is also the largest provider of Housing First apartments for homeless people in the region. In the last three years, DESC has connected over 1,500 people to housing, more than any other agency in the state.

Billy Joe of The Dusty 45s knows first hand the impact DESC can make in a person’s life:

“When it comes to DESC, I can speak from personal experience about the comfort they provide to families like mine,” says Billy Joe Huels of the Dusty 45s, who will also be releasing their new EP, Fortunate Man, at the event. “DESC provided my mentally ill brother real options when he had none. Matthew lives with schizophrenia and was homeless for 8 years. When he wasn’t living on the street, his most common residences were King County Jail and Western State Hospital. He failed again and again in other shelters and housing situations. DESC is the first agency to successfully monitor his medication. He recently marked one year in an apartment of his own, operated by DESC. Through their service, my brother now has a humane and stable existence.”

There will be two shows. The first at 7pm all ages and the second at 10pm 21+. Tickets are $20 and all proceeds will directly benefit the programs of The Downtown Emergency Service Center and will be generously matched by Safeco Insurance.
